Science Course
SCIENCE
The content of school science is broadly defined to include specific capacities, understandings, and abilities in science. The content standards are not a science curriculum. Curriculum is the way content is delivered: It includes the structure, organization, balance, and presentation of the content. Science tuition at our campus includes the disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Our weekly 2-hour classes are designed to support students’ school learning and teach them the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes, and uses of Science. Our specialist teachers use a clear, structured, and engaging approach to make complex scientific concepts accessible to all students.
- Our teaching assistants with advanced subject knowledge are on hand to provide one-to-one assistance for students struggling with a challenging subject area.
- Science tuition – focus areas
Improving and strengthening subject knowledge – students learn in small ability-based classes of up to 10, enabling us to quickly establish and overcome any difficulties. Exam skills – we work on learning to complete as many answers as possible in a clear and concise manner, timing, and maintaining calm and focus.
- Key Stage 3 – Years 7-9, Ages 11-14
Over a dozen more subjects are added to students’ school curriculum, and it can be challenging to keep up. Our Science tuition is focused on ensuring your child has a solid foundation and can confidently cope with the pace while progressing towards GCSE level.
Students begin to deepen their knowledge of the scientific ideas and see the connections between the disciplines of Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. They start to understand the big ideas underpinning all scientific knowledge, relate scientific explanations to phenomena in the world around them, and use modelling and abstract ideas to develop and evaluate explanations.
Our differentiated small-class environment enables students to learn at their most suitable level and achieve the best possible results.
Students with a strong interest and advanced ability in Science can learn beyond the National Curriculum level, preparing to go into more depth at GCSE and specialisation at A-level.
- Key Stage 4 – GCSE – Years 10-11, Ages 14-16
We provide GCSE Science tuition at Foundation and Higher levels, aimed at helping students consolidate their knowledge and develop effective exam taking skills while they work towards a Double or a Triple GCSE Science qualification
Students deepen their scientific understanding and the way it relates to everyday life, while learning to apply observational, practical, modelling, enquiry, problem-solving, and mathematical skills.
GCSE Double Science is a two-year course, in which students attain two separate GCSE Science qualifications: Science A GCSE and Additional Science GCSE.
The GCSE Triple Science option leads to three science GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, allowing students to study topics beyond the compulsory science curriculum.
GCSE exams are taken at the end of Year 11 and for best results we recommend joining our classes at the start of year 10.
In addition to weekly Science tuition in Maidstone and Medway, we run additional intensive revision classes in February and during Easter break to get students into the best shape for the exams.
