In Key Stage 2 English tuition, we continue developing all the elements of the literacy syllabus including spelling, reading, and comprehension, while encouraging students to apply their learning and develop their reasoning skills.
The aim of our Key Stage 2 English classes: Build students’ levels up before they start 11 Plus preparation in Year 5Prepare students for SATs and the transition to secondary school in Year 6
Key Stage 3 – Years 7-9, Ages 11-14
- Reading – becomes wide, varied, and in-depth.
- Writing – students start writing at length, including formal and academic essays, as well as writing imaginatively.
Spoken language – underpins reading and writing. Students learn to use conventions for discussions and debate, as well as collaborate with their peers. Beginning from Year 7, students learn over a dozen more subjects and often need supplementary tuition to maintain focused learning.
Our Key Stage 3 English tuition supports students during this significant growth period by improving and consolidating their school learning, while encouraging participation and building their confidence levels.
Our teachers are experienced at identifying each student’s individual abilities and talents, quickly recognising if a subject area needs to be honed or the student is ready for more advanced learning.
GCSE – Years 10-11, Ages 14-16
Our GCSE English tuition is a 2-year study programme that combines English Language and Literature, includes both Foundation and Higher levels, and is structured in accordance with the main exam boards. Students sit their GCSEs at the end of the 2-year period and receive two grades in English and English Literature. Our weekly 2-hour classes are designed to support students’ school learning, securing their subject knowledge, and develop effective exam taking skills. We recommend starting GCSE English tuition at the start of Year 10, giving students the best chance to absorb and apply their knowledge at a manageable pace.
